What kind of guitar is this?
Hello. I recently bought this guitar at a pawn shop, I'm trying to find some information on it but am having no luck on my own. It looks like a flying v with one of the wings cut off, it has schaller tuners, an active EMG pickup and the body appears to be birdseye maple. Can somebody please help me out. Sadly I haven't had a chance to play it yet so I don't know how it sounds. The input jack is bad (I think) so I'm going to have to get it repaired or try to fix it myself
It looks like an older custom made guitar, perhaps of Japanese origin. Typically the headstock gives it away, but this guitar obviously only has a symbol. It has a neck thru design, but the truss rod was installed where the neck joins the body. That little white thing at the end is a truss rod cover. That was an older design that has been moved away from, mostly with bolt on guitars so you don't have to remove the neck from the body to turn the truss rod. Although you don't have to do that with this guitar, it was the style from some time ago. Given the serial number on the headstock, 83003, my guess would be that it was made in 1983 and was the 3rd guitar made by this maker or in this series.
That appears to be an active EMG, so you should find a battery under the rear electronics cavity. Also, since it is (or should be) an active EMG, and you may need to replace the jack, you should know that you need a stereo jack to run EMG pickups. So don't just get anything when replacing it.
There may be some more details about the guitar hidden within. Sometimes custom makers or even regular factories have information in the control cavity, pickup route, or even near the truss rod. Fender used to do that with production dates and factory information.
