I have two pcs that are connected by cable solely for the purpose of sharing a printer.?
I hooked up the primary just fine, works perfectly, but tried to hook up the second one (only used for printing shipping labels, is in another room) but can't seem to make it work. I've installed the drivers via the installation cd and it says it's ready but nothing happens when I try to print. Please help if you can!
First thing is to be sure the two PCs can see each other, actually form a network.
Are the PCs directly connected? As in the printer is connected to PC1, PC1 ethernet connected to PC2 ethernet?
If this is the case be sure the cable is a CROSSOVER cable.
If you are using the serial port you will need a NULL MODEM cable.
Be sure printer and file sharing is turned on, the printer will probably show up as Printer1 on PC1
