Is there a lot of laquer on the american deluxe fender srtat?
I played a v neck american deluxe fender strat and loved it, but I found the neck to be kind of sticky. I like smooth maple necks and this was a tinted maple neck, which I liked, but it was difficult to slide my hand against it. I'm just wondering if they put a lot of laquer, and if so, is there a way to fix that problem?
I like the feel of raw wood better too, but you have to be a little careful, because the wood does need a sealer on it, so it doesn't absorb sweat and warp.
I take care of it, by taking some real fine 0000 sand paper, and lightly sand the back of the neck.
This roughs it up, and gives the feel of unfinished wood, while leaving most of the finish there for protection.
You can do it with the neck on, but it will look better if you remove it before sanding.
The guitar will play a LOT better, easier etc, and the strings will last longer if you wash yer hands real good before you sit down to play.
It's the sweat and oils form our hands that makes the neck feel sticky, and wears out the strings.
