Is this purely cosmetic or does it effect the tone?
I've been looking at a few guitars by
ESP and Ibanez that have been in the 500-1k price range (usd). A few have them have either flamed maple or quilted maple tops on the body. Does this have any effect on the tone at this price range or is it purely cosmetic? An example is the RGA42FM or any number of LTD models that are numbered 400 and 500 or so and a few 1000 models. Any help or tips on this?
Sorry I can't be of help with this but as an Ibanez player, I'd say go with that. If you're looking in that price range, you can never go wrong with an RG550. Fantastic neck, sturdy bridge, great japanese quality. The reissues from '07 can become a little pricey, but I'm sure you can find one under 1k
