How does gold plating affect a tuba mouthpiece?
So I'm looking into buying a new mouthpiece. However, I would like to know how gold plating can affect them before I make a purchase. Does it affect how it feels, how it plays, or your sound? Thanks for your answers.
Change in sound isn't very noticeable. What most people have said is that gold plating has a different feel. Presumably a "softer" feeling. I've tried a few gold plated mouthpieces and I think that there is a slight change in the feel when compared to a silver-plate.
The issue is that it is plated. The mouthpiece is still made out of brass with a very thin layer of silver (& gold). Because the core is still brass, the very small change in the outer layer would do very little to the overall playability of it.
